Volunteer Job Descriptions

Here is a list of volunteer positions and a short description.  

Timer: Times and records the events with a stop watch.

Meet Runner: Relays timer sheets to the computer operator and DQ slips to the Referee.  Involves a bit of walking back and forth.

Check-in: Checks swimmers into the meet and Sharpies the events on their arms.  You work with a partner.

Assistant Clerk-of-Course:  Assists the Clerk-of-Course in getting the swimmers lined up and at the starting point for each event.

Set-Up: Sets up the pool deck for home meets

Clean-Up: Cleans up and resets the pool deck for home meets

Concessions: Helps work the concession stand to sell food and drinks.  Includes helping to set up the concessions area as well and to break it down.

Head Timer: Starts additional stopwatches at the beginning of every race in the event a timer has a watch malfunction or misses the start of the race.

Edward's Landing Pass Distributor: This person passes out pool passes to community members who would like to use the EL pool on days the Potomac Crossing pool is closed due to a meet.  This person must be an Edward's Landing resident.

Heat Winner Ribbons: Distributes heat winner ribbons to the first finisher in every heat.

Stroke and Turn; Starter; Referee:  Judge the legality of swimmers' events and run the meet.  These are jobs that require an ODSL certification.  If you are unfamiliar with these roles please email Lisa Karg for more information.
